Call your Representatives and tell them to vote “NO” on more funding for the war in Iraq!
We are close to our last chance to stop another year of full funding for the war in Iraq.
On May 15, 2008 the House voted against more funding for the war in Iraq, 149 NO votes to 141 YES votes. The funding bill was defeated because 132 Republicans voted “present” in protest against how the bill was brought forward by the Democratic leadership. The Republicans would support the same bill if it came up again, and the bill would easily pass.
Last week the Senate voted for full funding of the war in Iraq for another year, 24 NO votes to 70 YES votes, in a bill that included about 60 Billion dollars in domestic spending.
The combined war and domestic spending bill that passed in the Senate will probably come to a vote in the House next week after the Memorial Day break. There is at least a chance it might be defeated because of anti-war Democrats who oppose the war part and blue dog Democrats and Republicans who don’t want the domestic spending part. To defeat the bill we need 69 more NO votes on top of the 149 who voted NO last time.
Representatives Blumenauer, DeFazio and Wu voted NO. Thank them and tell them to vote NO again.
But Representatives Hooley and Baird voted YES for war funding and Represenative Walden voted "present." Call them and tell them that they need to vote NO this time.
